To consider the value of “Wa”, the traditional Japanese sense, it is important to understand the spirit of Japan, rather than its style. Like other countries, there are many unique materials and technologies in Japan cultivated under the county’s climate and culture. The sense and skill, brushed up by inherent dexterity and diligence, are highly evaluated worldwide, and their elements are sure to become important keywords to be sent out hereafter. “Igusa”, the materials for tatami, is one good example of what the Japanese have developed, and is something they should be proud of.
By adapting the spirit of Japan into global-standard design, IGSA series came to shape thanks to the skillful craftsmen using only genuine domestic materials of high quality. The items were logically produced, by focusing on the universal way of using tatami-laying, sitting, putting things on the same material and re-arranging it to fit modern lifestyle. The idea of using a single element in various ways is the basis of “Wa”, the culture that the Japanese should proudly convey abroad.
